Charlene Grant grew up in Alaska and started her musical career in playing in rowdy clubs and sleazy bars all over the state. Her first real gig was at The Fly By Night Club in Anchorage, where she was an original member of Mr. Whitekeys and the Fabulous Spamtones and also opened the nightly shows playing guitar in a duo for acts passing through such as Memphis Slim and Roy Bookbinder. This gig lasted two years at a time when bands played until 4 a.m., so she got a real education along with some solid stage experience.

In the late '80's, she wanted to swim in a bigger pond and moved San Diego. She played bass in a house band and performed with Debbie Davies, Kellie Rucker and Gary Primich when they came to San Diego from L.A. At this time, Charlene developed an interest in songwriting and started collaborating with Jack Tempchin's keyboard player, John Barnard. Her lyrics got noticed and she was invited to perform at Candye Kane's songwriting showcase in Encinitas, CA.

After a road trip back to Alaska to perform with Gary Sloan in 1993, Charlene headed to Seattle. She immediately landed a gig with Northwest blues legend and Albert Collins crony, Isaac Scott. With Isaac she learned what a good groove can do, watching him "stun and mold" audiences with his gifted vocals and guitar work. The gig lasted two years and then Charlene started playing for other Seattle bands such as John Marshall's "The Wild Rhododendrons" Jack Cook's "The Phantoms of Soul", and Steve Bailey's "Bailey's Blues." She took her own act to Amsterdam in 1997 and did a successful tour of the local clubs.

In 1999 Charlene joined Isaac Scott's band once again and played with him for another two years before his passing. Along with occasional performances with The John Stephan Band, Charlene performs with her own band, Charlene Grant and The Love Doctors.
